True stories: Part II

“That is enough, I am going home. I am not doing this anymore. I have nothing to show for all my suffering here. At least if I am in my country, whether the children have food or not, at least I will feel free”

Thank you for visiting my website

The Purpose of this website was to chart and document my family's journey back to Nigeria in 2010/2011 after almost two decades in the United Kingdom.

As you go through the blogs, you will read of genuine efforts made towards this end. You will read of inner turmoil and outer pressures pulling in one direction or the other. A lot of money has been spent, a lot of energy has been expended and an awful lot of time has been consumed by this dream.

Alas, the house we were building is now up for sale! The dream, though not over, is very much on hold. After much discussion and praying as a family, we've decided that this is not the right step for us right now. Nigeria is a very troubled nation. As a rational and logical human being, one tries to look into the future and speculate (hopefully with a bit of faith and common sense) what might be. The more I did that with Nigeria based on what I see now, the less I was able to feel that our children will thank us for bringing them to live in Nigeria for good.

As I travel to Nigeria regularly, the more I see that the romantic imagery of the country which i was once knew is no longer accurate. Societal values and norms have become moribund, the dog eat dog attitude and the Darwinian survival of the fittest tendency is so clear to behold. The Nigeria of my youth, which gave me discipline and sense of family protection, is no longer the Nigeria of my adulthood.

Nevertheless, I do not believe at all that my journey thus far has been a waste of time, money or energy. I can recoup the money back which I'll use to invest elsewhere and I have learnt a lot in the process which I will write on soon. So if you wish to buy the house or have enquiries about it please get in touch with me via This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Happy blogging!
